ALevel
Who's it for?
For students working towards A level, our field courses can provide the vital requirements to fulfil their fieldwork needs. With many inspiring locations, providing excellent opportunities for independent investigation, the North Devon coast is the ideal study environment.
Our aim is simple; our field studies programmes are designed to allow students to learn and practice fieldwork techniques, and to enhance their subject knowledge through first hand experiences linked to established case studies.
Whether your class study AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL, WJEC, or the International Baccalaureate just to name a few, we have a wide range of topics available that can be designed and adapted around your syllabus requirements.
Our tutors can deliver all aspects of the course and support students through their enquiries as they develop their own hypotheses and strategies for enquiry.
Key Geography concepts can be introduced for the first time whilst out in the field, or students can apply classroom knowledge to see how it measures up to ‘real life’.
Students will be introduced all stages of an investigation, including:
-
setting a testable hypothesis and deciding on a sampling strategy
-
use of scientific equipment and apparatus when out in the field
-
primary data collection and presentation
-
process of articulating a robust conclusion and evaluation.
Other examining bodies are covered, please get in contact to discuss your particular board requirements.
We have flexible programmes from day visits, overnight stays, to full 5 day programmes.
Independent Investigation
Who's it for?
Courses written to satisfy the requirements for the new specification, these programmes are for students undertaking a Geography A Level with the intention of capturing primary data for their Independent Investigation.
Students are required to experience 4 days of quality fieldwork at A Level, all of which can be accomplished during a visit to Skern Lodge; students can then use primary data sampled at any of the locations to inform their own Independent Investigation.
Students work collaboratively to explore the scope and focus of an enquiry as well as sample their data in small groups, but will work independently to present and analyse their own data.
Skern Lodge tutors will lead investigation workshops designed to up-skill students in sampling strategy techniques, data presentation, statistical analysis, and advice on how to write conclusions and evaluate a fieldwork enquiry.
Please contact us for further information and to discuss the opportunities to suit your requirements.
